I Never Liked Fortune Cookies

The pseudoprognostications, trite sayings, and the randomly generated lottery numbers just never incentivized me to waste my appetite on them.  Especially when Crab Rangoon is on the menu.

And yet for some curious reason, while noshing at a unremarkable Chinese restaurant in New England close to the finish line of our walk, I cracked one open and ironically this was what was inside.

I didn't share it with anyone then, I just taped it to the inside of a steel business card holder that my sister-in-law gave me years ago in which I housed my ID and other important emergency info throughout the duration of our walk.

But tonight is the 4 year anniversary of when we launched 2 Dogs 2000 Miles and this fortune cookie is what I reflect on most.

I am thankful for everyone who helped us along the way.  More so for those who have stuck with us throughout it all and this announcement is for you.

I have begun the planning phase for our second 2 Dogs 2000 Miles walk. This time it's across Japan from the Southern most main island, Kyushu to the Northernmost, Hokkaido: Cape Sata to Cape Soya with the fuzzybutts, of course.

We will walk the ends of the world until and when it's cancer free.

'They will be grateful that you cared enough to make it'

Though you may have never given into the fortune cookies with the random lottery numbers, I do find it a bit uplifting that it landed in your lap.

The truth and conviction of a man with the caliber of your existence is what made this feat possible.

There has never been (to my knowledge) another man or group devoted to a cause as such with such great passion.

I have no doubt that you went back and forth with your decision to sacrifice so much for the one true love of your life - Malcolm. Because of such love you welcomed the possibility to love again and because of that love you fight - and you fight hard.

'They'- may refer to many but 'I' am most grateful that you cared enough to make it. I am most pleased and honored to have you fighting relentlessly for a cause greater than ourselves. I am pleased to call you my friend.

Japan will be yet another poetic feat and a successful one at that. The next 2000 miles will again show and prove that yes, you care enough to make it.

I will be with you every step of the way as you journey through Japan. Know that.

Why Japan?

And make it you did! Words just do not come to me that describe the magnitude of your conviction. I have met you, talked with you, worked at an event with you and ridden with you and yet I am still overwhelmed each time by you. I am so thankful I was able to spend time with Murphy. He will forever be in my heart. Hudson and Indy and you are now a pack still working for the cause. I was not surprised that you have announced plans for a new walk...somehow I always knew you would take it on again. Just wasn't sure when or where, but Japan of all places. I didn't see that coming. I just want to say to Hudson and Indy,
"Be aware...be very aware when someday Papi says,"Hey Boys, Let's go for a walk."
Love and Hugs,
Rosie Willis Willett

We are among the grateful "they."
Thank you once again, Luke and the Fuzzybutts.
Laurie, Bacchus, Caelus and all those that came before who lost their lives to cancer.
